In Bahopurwa, Banke district, Ruksar Khan defied societal norms and became an inspiration for girls in her community. Despite facing obstacles and traditional expectations, Ruksar’s thirst for knowledge persisted. She had to leave school after grade 8 due to pressures but remained passionate about learning.

USAID Adolescent Reproductive Health (ARH) played a pivotal role in her journey. Through SAA group sessions that encouraged dialogue and reflection, Ruksar found a space to express her dreams and challenge societal norms.

Ruksar’s life took a turn when her mother, Saijaha Khan, attended one of these sessions and was deeply moved by the power of education. Saijaha encouraged Ruksar to continue her education, firmly believing that every child deserves the opportunity to learn and become self-reliant.

Ruksar eagerly returned to school, enrolled in grade 9, and became an advocate for change. She shared her story and motivated other girls to embrace education. Supported by USAID ARH and her mother’s unwavering faith, Ruksar’s journey showcases the transformative impact of education and advocacy, breaking gender boundaries. She serves as a beacon of hope for her community, illuminating a path to a future where every girl’s aspirations are nurtured and their voices heard in the halls of education.
